“As we arrived it was evident this was a special time, as very exotic street cars were parked in the driveway. As we entered Gaige House, a bed and breakfast in the hills of wine country, we were met by the representatives of I-Drive Green. Former Champ Car driver Didier Theys was in attendance and ICS driver Nelson Philippe (who was injured at the track earlier in the morning) is also active in this company. After a quick briefing, we were escorted to the exotics. My 'coach' was Bill Follmer, nephew of former racing champion George Follmer. He quickly explained the paddle shifter and away we drove thru the winding roads of wine country and farms. When we returned, we were then directed to a variety of 'regular' vehicles. I drove a Hummer and we went through the same drive. However, this time, a small device was secured to the dashboard. Upon our return, we watched a quick presentation of proper driving techniques that could save fuel, lessen emissions and enhance eco driving techniques. With renewed knowledge, we took to the road for the third time, again with the device on the dash. Completing the driving portion, the small dash computer was removed and information obtained from the computer told the story. The information not only compared the two exact drives, but recorded times, gas and braking information along the way. This program is in a final test and should be available commercially soon. Their market will be to fleet managers to record employees' driving habits and fuel consumption and possibly for parents of teenagers to also monitor their driving. Most everyone has heard the information before, but a refresher on how to brake, accelerate, coast and avoid jump starts to save fuel, help provide for a greener tomorrow and overall become aware of and possibly change driving habits. It was a unique, fun experience and I was quite impressed with the technology.”

Data from the IDGA workshop in May and August of 2009 showed that you could reduce your fuel consumption as much as 27% depending on your driving style without increasing your travel time. What is does increase are your driving skills: An IDG Academy driver is a better driver who anticipates and adopts a driving style that makes their travel or journey safer and more comfortable. Here is the combined data from our workshop participants:
